Emily Shults is an associate with the firm and her practice focuses on representing employers specializing in litigation defense, employee management, employee training, practice before state and federal agencies, workplace training seminars, and preventive law/risk management. Emily has been listed in Oregon Super Lawyers every year as a Rising Star since 2009.
Emily is a frequent speaker in the community and is a member of the Oregon, Michigan, and Ohio State Bars, the Multnomah Bar Association, the Labor and Employment Section of the American Bar Association, the National Association of Women Lawyers and the Portland Human Resource Management Association.

Emily is a former judicial clerk forThe Honorable Richard Allen Griffin of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and The Honorable Joseph H. McKinley, Jr. of the Western District of Kentucky. Emily has substantial writing experience in a range of federal and state labor and employment issues, including benefit administration and compliance, class-action litigation, employment legislation, anti-discrimination and wage and hour compliance, and federal administrative agencies, on both the trial and appellate levels.
Prior to her clerkships, Emily worked for the United States Attorneys in the Southern District of California defending employment discrimination litigation and constitutional torts. She has authored two published law review articles, one on the application of Title VII.
Emily received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2004 where she was a Senior Articles Editor on the Human Rights Quarterly and a member of the Moot Court Board. She externed for The Honorable Gregory Wehrman of the Eastern District of Kentucky and served as an Arthur Russell Morgan Fellow, working in Botswana to redraft legislation to incorporate the "Convention on the Rights of the Child" and provide increased property and financial rights for women. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Northern Lakes Canoe Base Alumni Association and is a lifetime Girl Scout.
