We believe in diversity and the inclusion of many voices. This belief enriches who we are and how we work with our clients. We strive to make our workplace a discrimination- and harassment-free zone based on legally recognized protected classes, where people of all cultures and backgrounds are welcome. We advise our clients to do the same.
We are a people-oriented firm, dedicated to providing equal opportunity for all qualified employees and applicants for employment. Statement on Current Events
As lawyers and legal professionals, we have a special responsibility for the quality of justice and an obligation to speak out and take action whenever justice is denied. The death of George Floyd has captured the attention – and the outrage – of the entire world. Mr. Floyd was not the first, and unfortunately, won’t be the last. Black Lives Matter. Yet so many people of color have been killed by needless violence, and when it has been at the hands of those whose duty it is to uphold the rule of law and to serve and protect—it is an especially egregious and systematic denial of justice. As lawyers, we have an obligation to speak out and to take action when justice is denied.
Bullard Law is speaking out. We stand with the
Oregon Minority Lawyers Association (OMLA) and the other organizations that have come out in condemning police brutality, racial injustice, racism, and the deterioration of the rule of law. We stand in solidarity with the Black community and other communities of color, who are reasonably and understandably feeling threatened and vulnerable during these tense times and who desperately need our support. And we support the right of all Americans to peacefully protest and shine a bright and cleansing light on injustice and the abuses of power.
Bullard Law is also taking action. Many of our lawyers and staff and their families are taking their own steps to ensure their individual voices are heard, and we support them. And as a firm, we are heeding OMLA’s call and are making donations to the following organizations that fight against racial injustice:
- The Bail Project: A nonprofit that aims to mitigate incarceration rates through bail reform - https://bailproject.org/
- Campaign Zero: An organization that utilizes research-based policy solutions to end police brutality in the U.S.- https://www.joincampaignzero.org/
- The Know Your Rights Camp: An organization founded by Colin Kaepernick that provides education and training in black and brown communities, set up a legal fund for Minneapolis protestors - https://www.knowyourrightscamp.com/
- The NAACP Legal Defense Fund: An organization that supports racial justice through advocacy, litigation, and education - https://www.naacpldf.org/about-us/
Bullard Law also echoes the call of OMLA and others, and encourages our friends, clients, and fellow lawyers to donate to these organizations, and to take a stand against racial injustice – and for the equal protection of law – in whatever way you can.
