J. Chris Duckworth Joins Bullard Law

November 4, 2013

Portland, OR – Chris came to his law career by a circuitous route. Before entering law school he was a scientist working as a water quality field technician. He has also been a carpenter, bartender and sail maker. In short, he has a diverse background.

Never one to shy away from challenges, Chris moved to Florida after college and bought a sailboat, without really knowing how to sail. He soon learned and then sailed for five years up and down the East Coast and through The Bahamas. He also once completed a summit of Mt. Rainier in 36 hours, and recently circuited the Huayhuash mountain range in Peru.

Growing up in Indiana, Chris’s family history nudged him toward the legal profession.  The influence of Chris’s great-grandfather and step-grandfather - both of whom were lawyers - led him to enter law school.

Chris’s interest in labor law was sparked by his father, who is a union member. Through his father’s experience, Chris saw both the positives and negatives of organized labor.

During law school, Chris clerked for the Portland City Attorney’s office, where he worked on employment litigation cases for the City in its role as an employer. He also tried three cases to a jury while interning with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office as a court-certified law student.

As a lawyer at Bullard, Chris represents both public and private sector clients in labor and employment issues; providing clients with candid, objective, well-reasoned advice. He loves finding the best possible solution to complex problems and complicated issues, all while utilizing the analytical approach fostered by his science background.

Outside of work, Chris’s adventures now are primarily on dry land. He enjoys backpacking with his wife and dog, playing basketball and exploring the Pacific Northwest. We’re glad that through all his travels Chris found his way to Bullard.
