Profile
Nik is a skilled advisor, negotiator, and advocate. A childhood refugee from Ukraine, he began his career in labor and employment with Oregon’s SEIU locals. In the nearly 20 years since, he has acquired extensive experience in all facets of labor relations, from organizing campaigns to collective bargaining, workplace investigations to contract disputes.
After law school, he represented California public employee unions, leading negotiations with employers like the County of Los Angeles, representing employees in disciplinary matters, and in hearings before the state’s Public Employment Relations Board.
Nik’s extensive experience and unique perspective inform his holistic approach to labor matters, enabling him to find cost-effective means of advancing his clients’ immediate interests without compromising their long-term goals. His insider understanding of union strategies and tactics helps clients adopt a proactive approach to their workplace – identifying and addressing potential challenges before they grow and opportunities before they pass.
Nik has negotiated dozens of collective bargaining agreements and hundreds of midterm modifications and settlements of individual cases. Of course, not all matters can be settled. When client interests require a more direct approach, Nik has proven to be a tenacious advocate, having successfully represented clients in arbitrations, commission hearings, and unfair labor practice charge cases at both evidentiary hearings and appellate levels.
Outside of work, Nik likes to bike, follow soccer, and play the violin when his cats permit. He likes big books, and he cannot lie.
